cheers to 25 years

my 25th birthday was at the end of march, and i’ve spent the few weeks since then reflecting and trying to be a better adult. although i’ve been living on my own and working full time for quite a while now, 25 is the first age i’ve been where i’m really surprised at how old and adult it sounds. as a kid at heart, it’s something that i’ve been struggling with a bit, but i’ve also realized that it’s just a part of life and not something i should stress over. in honor of this growing up and introspection i’ve had over the past few weeks, i wanted to share 25 lessons i’ve learned in 25 years. i hope that some of you can relate to these, if not learn from them too.

  1. not everyone is going to like you. and that’s okay.
  2. you will attract the right people to your life by being authentic to yourself.
  3. it’s ok to grow apart from friends, even ones that you’ve known for a long time.
  4. not everything you see on social media is real, stop comparing yourself to instagram photos.
  5. being open and honest is always the best decision, even if it’s a harder than a white lie.
  6. trust the universe, life is happening for you (not to you).
  7. routine, routine, routine is the best way to get everything done.
  8. you’re more likely to get exercising done if you schedule it in, instead of always saying you can do it ‘later’. trust me, you’re never going to go to the gym later.
  9. find out what self care is to you and DO IT.
  10. it’s okay to change your mind on big decisions.
  11. putting money into savings is a lot more important than having the latest designer goods.
  12. surround yourself only with people who make you happy.
  13. ask for a raise if you think you deserve one!
  14. find something you love and do it as often as you can.
  15. give back to your community in any way that you can.
  16. your true friends will support you no matter what. if they don’t, they aren’t your true friends.
  17. going out to bars and clubs all the time is overrated.
  18. never stop learning! knowledge is infinite, there is always something we can learn.
  19. if you’re not a morning person like me, pick out your outfit and pack your lunch the night before work/school. it will save you so much time in the mornings.
  20. i’m convinced a good night’s sleep is the key to success.
  21. have big dreams, but also be realistic about the steps you need to take to achieve them.
  22. having a degree in a specific field doesn’t lock you into that field for forever!
  23. keep an open mind and be respectful of others who are different than you. we all live on the same planet and we can all learn so much from one another.
  24. you will feel so much better if you eat 3 healthy meals a day.
  25. always assume the best intentions.
